Before you create your podcast, ID your audience.
Who are you trying to reach? Based on your company's goals, these listeners could be inside or outside your organization.
- Americans over 65?
- Golf enthusiasts over 25?
- Book-loving men over 45?
- Electrical engineers?
- Emerging business leaders?
Be as specific as possible, because once you identify your target audience, you need not only to craft your podcast to appeal to those listeners, but also come up with a plan to reach them.
Seek listeners on social media and online forums and learn what matters to them. If your audience is niche (e.g., women who run marathons), you can even seek them out to talk with them in person (at a marathon).
The better you define your target audience’s persona, the better you’ll be able to customize your show to ensure you're creating what they want to hear (and share). And you can begin to get a sense of how many listens your podcast might generate.
